Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for my treatment?
Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, acids and direct sun exposure for a week prior to treatment. Wait 2 weeks following Botox/Dysport, microneedling, or other skin therapies. Avoid any waxing, threading or other form of hair removal for 1 week prior.
What’s the process and how long will it last?
A chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate and rejuvenate. The process is about 40 min, and is combined with deep cleansing, extraction, and post-acid soothing topicals. Depending on your goals, your skin health and your readiness for downtime, your provider will tailor your treatment – this treatment is highly customizable, and your provider will determine which acid, which stregth and how many treatments will deliver your best results.
Will it hurt?
You may feel a mild tingling or stinging sensation during the peel.Depending on your goals, you may work with your provider towards a more intensive peel; the higher the strength of acid and they type of acid may come with more discomfort. In general, it is a mild to moderate tingling, which is soothed following application of the neutralizing solution.
How long is the recovery period and what are the after care insturctions?
Recovery time can range from a few hours to a few days of redness and peeling depending on the strength of the peel indicated for your skin type. Gentle, soothing anti-finflammatory peels tend ot have low downtime; more intensive rejuvenation therapies may be associated with 3-5 days of flaking. You provider will create your treatment plan with you, and give you options ot achieve your goals and plan for your peels.
When will I see results?
Results are typically seen within a few days as the skin begins to heal and renew.A typical skin cell turnover cycle is 28 days; this process is sped up by the chemical peel. We recommend waiting a full cycle to evaulate your results.For those prone to acne – you may experience a purge. This is a necessary process, and will occur as toxins trapped within your skin are encouraged towards the surface. Plan your peel accordingly, prepare your skincare regime, and understand that this may be a normal expecation as you work towards a more even complexion.
Who should not recieve a Glow Bar peel?
The following conditions are contraindications to chemical peels; current use of Accutane, or use within the last 6 months, pregnant or nursing, allergy to any of the ingredients, presence of autoimmune illness, or current immunotherapy or cancer treatment.If you have a history of cold sores, please contact us to organize prohylactic therapy or to discuss your options.
How often should I get this treatment?
Depending on the peel strength, treatments can be repeated every 4-6 weeks. We recommend a series of three for greatest results.
