How do I prepare for my treatment?
Avoid sun exposure and tanning products for at least six weeks prior to treatment. You can obtain your best resutls with maximal contrast between your healthy skin and the pigment you want treated.Avoid retinol and exfoliants on the area to be treated x 1week.Photosensitizing medication including doxycycline and minocycline should be discontinued (if deemed safe by your prescriber) 3 days prior. If on a short course, plan your treatment following completion.If presence of hair, shave 12h prior.Stay well-hydrated for the days leading up to, and day of your treatment – well hydrated skin heals faster and will help regulate your body temperature.
What’s the process and how long will it last?
A handheld device that delivers Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) targets pigmentation and vascular issues. Sessions are short, lasting around 20-30 minutes.
Will it hurt?
There may be a mild snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band against the skin. However, it is relatively very comfortable. Your provider will monitor your response and tailor your treatment to ensure both your comfort and your optimal results.
How long is the recovery period?
Minimal downtime. The dermis is not disturbed during this treatment, so makeup can be applied immediately.You may anticipate mild redness that will subside within 1-2h.Pigmented areas will initially darken – you may see this immediatly. This is a sign that the IPL has targeted those areeas to be removed. This pigment will darken over the next 2-3 days, rise to the surface of the skin, and slough off.Vascularities may take longer to resolve; once targeted by the device, your body will metabolize the fragments and remove them from your system over the course of a few days.
When will I see results?
Results typically become noticeable after 1-2 weeks. As IPL is a gentle light treatment, you may require 3 sessions for your full results.We recommend pairing this treatment with medical grade skincare and pigment inhibitor, as well as daily SPF to preserve and optimize your results.
What are the after-care instructions?
Avoid direct sunlight for 2-3 days. Avoid peeling or picking at sloughing pigment; this will slough off naturally. Anticipate a mild tingling for 4h post, and mild redness for the rest of the day.Utilize daily medical-grade SPF, Vitamin C and pigment inhibitor, as well as a retinol regime, to preserve your results and prevent future pigment from reoccuring.
How often should I get this treatment?
Usually, 3-5 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
